During the 2008 Halloween weekend we had 2 bookings in Canada. On Friday we had to play at Black Light 4 in Quebec and on Saturday we had to play at Embryon in Toronto.
Our journey began at Amsterdam airport from where we flew to Montreal. From Montreal we took a bus to Quebec. The promoter (Simon, DJ Merkurius) was waiting for us at the bus stop to bring us to the hotel. When we arrived at the hotel we took a quick shower and went straight to our favorite club in Quebec: Dagobert. We figured it would be a good idea to get into the night rhythm right away so we would not suffer from our jetlag. After some drinks we decided to get some sleep.
After a good night of sleep we had some breakfast at Subway and went down town to do some shopping. When we walked by some Irish pubs we decided to grab a beer. We ended up drinking it that bar all afternoon. At 7 o’clock the promoter invited us for diner in his favorite restaurant. The food was delicious and it was cool to see that everybody was dressed up for Halloween, except us. We took some hilarious Halloween pictures during this trip.
After diner we took a short nap and after that we were picked up by our driver to go to the venue. The venue was amazing. It was a creepy building in the middle of the woods. The perfect setting for a Halloween party. The hardcore area was a tent just outside the building. The tent could hold up to 500 people and it was quite full when we arrived.
DJ Merkurius was scheduled before our set. He played a good set with some of his own tracks. It was obvious that this crowd was ready to party. When his set was finished we entered the stage and that’s when the craziness started. The crowd went nuts! They were screaming, clapping and
whistling for minutes and we did not even start!! You could say that was a pretty warm welcome.
When we started our set we knew this performance would be in our minds forever. Every
breakdown made the crowd scream and all the lyrics were sang along. When we ended our set they screamed our name for minutes. This was by far the longest final applause we ever experienced. We had such a great time!
After our set we decided to stay at the party for a while. After some drinks it was time to go to the hotel. When we woke up we took a taxi to the airport of Quebec. We flew to Toronto with Porter air. This is now officially our favorite airline in the world. A small plane with great service and a great waiting lobby with free drinks, food and internet.
After a short flight we landed on the coolest airport in the world: Toronto City. This airport is located on a small island in front of down town Toronto. So when we landed we had the best view on the Toronto skyline. When we left the airport our friend Grant (the promoter of the Embryon parties, mister hardcore in Toronto) was waiting for us. After we picked up some stuff in the city we went to his house to take a rest and to eat some Thai food.
After 2 hours of sleep we went to the Savage Garden. This venue is normally a gothic bar. So it was filled with people who came for the party and with people who always come there. This was by far the weirdest crowd we ever saw. The gothic people wore the strangest outfits while our fans wore Enzyme and Endymion shirts. But the good this was they all totally loved the music.
Belladonnakillz was playing his live-set when we arrived. This man creates great drum and bass tracks and during his act he sings over his own tracks. After his set it was time for us to start our set.
Again we received a very warm welcome when we were introduced to the crowd. We decided to play a different set than the one in Quebec. We started with some dark tracks to see how far we could go with this crowd. They loved it all. The danced their ass off while we played the rougher Enzyme tracks. After 30 minutes we dropped the first melodic track: Lost in dreams (Weapon X remix). That’s when we knew this crowd was 100% open minded. They went crazy on the mainstream tracks too so we were totally able to play whatever we liked. It was a great experience to play for these people. After our set we hang around in the club for a while and after that we ended up at a crazy after party somewhere in Toronto.
The Sunday was all about recovering, but we were not able to sleep at all. After 3 hours we woke up and we decided to go to the centre of Toronto again. We met up with our friends in an Irish pub for diner and some drinks. After that we hit the Toronto nightlife. On Monday morning we packed our bags and we left to Toronto City Airport from where we started our long journey home.
This small Canadian tour was another highlight in our career. We would like to say thanks to:
Grant (Embryon)
For being our friend and keeping the Toronto hardcore scene alive.
Simon (Merkurius)
For throwing a great party in Quebec and for the great time we had while we were in Quebec.
Chris and Angie
For being the most crazy couple in the world. Don’t forget to invite us to your divorce party!
Peter (Belladonnakillz), Andre (Or-Beat), Veronica, and all the people who came to see us in Quebec and Toronto!
